The pursuit of higher education is a noble one, but one that comes with a rather substantial cost and no one should miss out on a life-changing opportunity because of finance. Student loans are great to give you the funding you need now to better your future today.
Why do I need a student loan?
Not all students do. College is certainly expensive but there are other ways to fund your time there. A college education significantly improves your employment prospects and not to mention it equips you with the knowledge and skills to better yourself.
It is potentially one of the best times of your life and shouldn’t be missed because you didn’t apply for a loan. The loan practically pays for itself through the doors it opens to potential earnings.
Interest
However, there is a catch. Any money you borrow now, you eventually have to pay back with added interest. How much interest you are charged is entirely dependent on the type of loan you take out. You can either take out a federal loan to cover your college tuition and other costs or borrow privately from a bank or a credit union.
Federal student loans
Generally speaking, student loans which are government funded are less expensive than those offered by banks and other financial institutions. Federal loans include between 4% and 7% APR depending on which loan you decide to go for.
Other lenders
You should still have a look at what the banks have to offer in case there is a better deal available. Banks still offer competitive loans to students and there may be deals out there that better suit your needs.
